Happy Birthday Humphrey!!! – Celebrating 7 year
Humphrey was born in 2013 to
Aurora and Inukshuk, weighing in less than 700 g
(about the weight of two cans of pop!). Zoo staff
from the Wildlife Health Centre stepped in to handraise Humphrey when it was determined his mother
was not producing enough milk. While in the
Wildlife Health Centre, each of his major
milestones was documented by pictures and/or
video, allowing the public, including students, to
learn more about polar bear cub development –
video of Humphrey taking his first wobbly steps has
been viewed over six million times! At four months
of age, Humphrey moved to his home in the Tundra
Trek and from that time on, visitors have watched
him explore, devour his food, including ‘fishsicles,’
play with his enrichment toys (or the trees in his
exhibit), and learn to swim in the big pool. Now a
year old, Humphrey weighs in at over 100 kg, but
he still has lots of growing to do to reach the size of
an adult male polar bear, which can weigh between
400-600 kg.
Humphrey has become a great ambassador for polar bears worldwide, highlighting the threats to the
Arctic and helping to spread the word on how each person can make a difference and help save this
magnificent species and many others.
汉弗莱生日快乐！！！ –庆祝汉弗莱（Humphrey）于2013年出生于奥罗拉（Aurora）和因纽克（Inukshuk），体重不足700克（约等于两罐汽水的重量！），庆祝他成立7年。当确定他的母亲不能生产足够的牛奶时，野生动物健康中心的动物园工作人员介入对汉弗莱进行了养育。在野生动物健康中心期间，他的每个主要里程碑都通过图片和/或视频记录下来，从而使包括学生在内的公众能够更多地了解北极熊的发育-汉弗莱迈出了第一步摇摆的视频，已经观看了六个多万次！汉弗莱（Humphrey）在四个月大的时候就搬到了苔原跋涉（Tundra Trek）的家中，从那时起，参观者就看到他探索，吞噬他的食物（包括“鱼丸”），玩他的浓缩玩具（或展览中的树木），并学会在大游泳池里游泳。汉弗莱（Hemphrey）现在一岁，体重超过100公斤，但要达到成年雄性北极熊的体重（重量在400-600公斤之间），他还有很多工作要做。汉弗莱（Hemphrey）已成为全球北极熊的代言人，突显了北极的威胁，并有助于传播有关每个人如何发挥作用并帮助拯救这一宏伟物种及其他物种的信息。
